(2x + 3y)² = 12² = 144 ← distribute left side using FOIL

4x² + 12xy + 9y² = 144 ( subtract 12xy from both sides )

4x² + 9y² = 144 - 12xy = 144 - 12(6) = 144 - 72 = 72
