Why is the plasma membrane selective?

so water cannot enter or exit the cell
so waste products do not enter the cell
so lipid-soluble molecules do not enter or exit the plasma membrane unassisted
so large molecules can pass through the plasma membrane unassisted

I think it’s So lipid-soluble molecules do not enter or exit the plasma membrane unassisted
