Hello,

This is a question in my algebra homework. how would I find the slope of two straight lines when given no points and just the lines on a graph. I also attached my question to this.

Thanks,

Use the grid to determine what points are on line 1. There are many choices to pick from, but we only need 2 points. Two of those points are (0,-1) and (1,1)

Use the slope formula to find the slope of this line

m = (y2-y1)/(x2-x1)

m = (1-(-1))/(1-0)

m = (1+1)/(1-0)

m = (2)/(1)

m = 2

The slope is 2

A slope of 2 is the same as saying 2/1, meaning we go up 2 and over to the right 1 each time.

-------------------------------------------

We'll use the same idea for line 2

Two points on this line are (0,2) and (1,1)

m = (y2-y1)/(x2-x1)

m = (1-2)/(1-0)

m = -1/1

m = -1

The slope is -1

slope = -1/1 means we go down 1 and over to the right 1 each time.
