Hey! I’m doing a test and I’m really stuck on this problem

3 (y + 6) + 10 = -8
What is y?

y = -11

Explanation:

3(y+6) + 10 = -8

3y + 18 + 10 = -8

3y = -8 - 18 - 10

/3 /3

y = -12

Explanation:

3y+18+10=-8

Basically just used the distributive property

Combine like terms:

3y+28=-8

-28. -28

3y=-36

y=-12
