Can someone explain this? I´m still confused 2 + 2y = –y − 10

2. Simplify 2+2y+y2+2y+y to 2+3y2+3y.

2+3y=-102+3y=−10

3. Subtract 22 from both sides.

4. Simplify -10-2−10−2 to -12−12.

3y=-123y=−12

5. Divide both sides by 33.

y = -12/3

6. Simplify 12/3 to 4

y = -4

2+2y=-y-10

2y+y=-10-2

3y=-12

y=-4

So y is the variable, so first step is isolating the variables meaning all the "y"s on one side of the equal sign and the numbers on the other side. After you isolate the variable, you can just do the addition/subtraction/multiplication/division.
