The opposite of a number-also known as the additive inverse-is the number that is the same distance from 0 on a number line. For example, the opposite of 3 is -3 because -3 is the same distance away from 0 as 3 is.

The absolute value of a number represents the distance between 0 and the number on the number line. For example, the absolute value of -4 is 4. Also, when a question asks for the absolute value of a positive number, like 4, the absolute value is still positive(or 4 in this case).

hope it helps!
