so, lets mark things. X is the variable, and 4 and 10 are coefficients. to isolate the variable, or X, we have to move the coefficients to one side
so, we subtract 4 from 10 (10-4) and that equals 6.

X = 6

this means that x has to be 6. we can check this by plugging in 6 in place of x so


6 + 4 = 10


if we check this, 6 + 4 does equal 10, so x must equal 6
