The perimeter of a rectangular flower bed is 68 feet. Find the dimensions of the flower bed if the length is 2 less than three times the width.

Perimeter of the rectangular flour = 2(Length+Width)

P = 2(L+W)... 1

If if the length is 2 less than three times the width, then L = 3W - 2.... 2

Substitute equation 2 into 1;

P =2(3W-2+W)

68 = 2(4W-2)

68 = 8W-4

8W = 68+4

8W = 72

W = 72/8

W = 9 feet

Since L = 3W-2

L = 3(9)-2

L = 27-2

L = 25

The length is 25ft and the width is 9ft
