Phenomenon: If an astronaut throws a wrench in outer space with no other forces acting on it, the wrench will continue moving forever.

Answer:

You see the astronaut is traveling 4.76 miles/second horizontally, so if he throws, say, a wrench away from Earth, it only appears to the astronaut to be going straight away. Actually, however, it is going slowly “up” and quickly 4.76 miles/second sideways.
