The midpoint of AB ‾ AB is M ( − 1 , − 5 ) M(−1,−5). If the coordinates of A are ( 3 , − 8 ) (3,−8), what are the coordinates of B?

Answer:

(-5,-2)

Explanation:

To find the mid-point the formula is;

(x_1+x_2)/2 ,(y_1+y_2)/2

In this case point A (3,-8) , mid-point (-1,-5), point B (x,y)

Thus (3+x)/2 = -1

3+x=-2

x= -2-3 = -5

And

( -8+y)/2 = -5

-8 + y = -5*2

-8 +y = -10

y= -10 +8 = -2

Hence point B coordinates are: (-5, -2)
