Which element do you think is most important in a gothic novel? The monsters/ghosts OR the setting (where it takes place) WHY?

Definitely the setting because if you think of monsters or ghosts at a comedy show or even a carnival they’re not going to be as intimidating as a dark, foggy abandoned graveyard for example.

Answer:

the setting, because there can be monsters or ghosts anywere but when you think of gothic your no thinking of that. your thinking of dark cathedrals and spooky forests.
