Athens society was divided based on wealth. There were a small number of wealthy, land-owning aristocrats (men) who give rights to vote, participate in politics, and own property. Women had no right despite being born in Athens. Slaves did not have any rights as they were the lowest class group who indulged in manual labour in household and fields. Metics not considered to be citizens as they were born outside Athens.
