Vince is cutting fabric strips for a project. He needs fabric strips that are 1212 inches wide. He cut his first fabric strip too wide. His percent error was 5%. How wide did Vince cut the fabric strip?

13.125 inches wide

Explanation:

5% more than 12.5 which is 12 1/2 as a decimal, equals 13.125 inches.

Multiply your needed fabric width (12.5 or 12 1/2) by (1 + %/percent you're increasing it by) to equal the width you cut instead:


12.5(1+5) = 12.5(1.05) = 13.125

answer: 1151.4 inches

what I did was if you have 1212 inches and you need to get rid of 5% you would get 1151.4 inches since 1212 times 0.95
