Heather and her mom were the same size. Her mother had a leather
jacket that Heather loved. She always tried it on in front of the mirror
and begged her mother to let her borrow it. Her mother never would,
though. She always said that it was important to her and she couldn't
take the chance that it might get lost.
After months of saying this, Heather's mom came to her with a
proposal. "I bought that jacket with money that I saved up from my
very first job. It's the first really nice thing I owned. I'm going to do you
a favor. If you get a job this summer, you can have your own money to
buy whatever you want. You can get your own leather jacket if you
want."
What are two themes of this text?
A. It's appropriate to admire others' possessions, and you should
always strive to feel happy for others rather than envious.
B. Objects are less important than experiences, and it's better to earn
things for yourself than to have them handed to you.
C. To borrow others' possessions, you need to earn their trust, and no
one is obligated to lend someone an object that has sentimental
value
