y = -1, y = -11

3|y+6|-1=14

Add 1 to each side

3|y+6|-1+1=14+1

3|y+6|=15

Divide by 3

3|y+6| /3=15/3

|y+6|=5

There are two solutions to an absolute value equation one positive and one negative

y+6 = 5 y+6 = -5

Subtract 6 from each side

y+6-6 = 5-6 y+6-6 = -5-6

y = -1 y = -11
