m = (y2 - y1)/(x2 - x1)


(4 - 9)/( - 2 - 8)

(2)/(5)

b) using point (-2,4)


y - y1 = m(x - x1)


y - 4 = (2)/(5) (x - ( - 2)

Now distribute


y - 4 = (2)/(5) x + (4)/(5)

add 4 to each side


y = (2)/(5) x + (24)/(5)

can use the other point given if you want
