Josh is going to the store to buy candy. Bags of candy corn cost $3 and bags of chocolate cost $5. He needs to buy at least 20 bags of candy and he cannot spend more than $60. Write a system of linear inequalities to model the situation. (TEKS 3E)

Variable 1: a = candy corn

Variable 2: b = chocolate

Inequality 1: 60 ≥ 3a + 5b

Inequality 2: 20 ≤ 3a + 5b

The inequalities are as such because Josh needs to spend no greater than $60. He must also buy at least 20 bags of candy. The candy corn costs $3, while the chocolate costs $5. An expression for the total cost of the candy would be 3a + 5b.
