If f(x) = 2x and g(x) = 3x, what is f(-1) + g(5)?

Put the 2 in place of the f then the 3 in place of g. You would get a problem that looks like 2(-1) + 3(5). Multiply 2(-1)= -2 and multiply 3(5)=15. Your equation now looks like -2 + 15. Just add the two to get 13.
