Parallel lines have the same slope so now the line parallel to y = 2x - 5 is y = 2x + b. To find b we can plug our point into the equation we made.

1 = 2(-1) + b

1 = -2 + b

Add 2 to both sides.

3 = b

The equation of our line is: y = 2x + 3
