Answer: D. He feels responsible for K.'s death because he thinks he could have saved K.

Step-by-step explanation:

The Short Story, “The Seventh Man” tells a story of a man simply known as the Seventh man who shares a story of his childhood when he had a best friend named K.

One day there was a serious storm battering the town they stayed in and when the storm abated for a little while, he took a walk with K. As they stayed on the beach the Seventh man realized that waves were coming in but K was a bit of a distance from him.

After calling out to K who didn't hear him, he runs away when he sees the waves coming instead of going to K and physically collecting him so they both flee. K's body is never found and the Seventh man continually blames himself for not saving K.
