I need help Why is 1 + (−5) equal to −4? Dont Understand

Explanation:

You are adding positive 1 to -5. If a friend borrows 5 dollars from you (That means you have -5 dollars) and gives you back 1 dollar (That means you get positive 1), he sill owes you 4 dollars. That means you end up having -4 dollars (because he owes you 4 dollars).

Because you’re going closer to 0 by one. -5+1 is the same as subtracting 5 from 1. You’re going closer to 0 by 1, which adds 1 to -5. Thus, it’s -4
