Explanation:

x^2 + 6x - 18 = 0

this will not factor so we use completing the square:

x^2 + 6x = (x + 3)^2 - 9 so:

(x + 3)^2 - 9 - 18 = 0

(x + 3)^2 = 27

x+ 3 = ±√27

x = - 3 ± √27
