2x²+ (4- k)x - 17 = 0

a = 2, c = - 17 b = (4 - k)

For the equation above to have one root; equal but opposite in sign

Then;

(ax + c) = 0 and b = 0

Since b = 0, the we can solve for k

b = 4 - k

b = 0

4 - k = 0

4 = k
