Please can someone help me with this!

Point N lies on segment MP. The distance between points M and P is 24 cm. The distance between points N and M is twice the distance between N and P. Find the distance between points N and P.

Answer:

NP=8 cm and MN = 16 cm

Explanation:

lets suppose NP = x and MN = 2x - because it is twice of NP.

we know that the distance of MP = 24 cm

so MP = MN+NP

24=x+2x

3x=24 and

x=24/3

x=8

x means NP = 8 cm

AND 2x means MP = 2(8) = 16 cm
