The federal design divides power between multiple levels of government–often state and national.

Federal structure is usually divided into 2 separate governments: the national (federal) government and the state and local government. This way, one government wouldn’t have a lot of power, or overpowered. But, only the federal government can declare war.

Hope this helps!
