Answer:

In 71.43 years population of both cities be the same.

If we have to integral value of years then answer will

72 years because 71.43 greater than 71 years and hence in 72th years population of both cities becomes same.

Explanation:

Let the time be n years in which population of both Waco and Austin is same.

For Waco

Initial population = 14000

population increase in 1 year = 300

population increase in n year = 300*n= 300n

Total population for Waco in n years = 14000+300n

For Austin

Initial population = 24000

population increase in 1 year = 160

population increase in n year = 160*n= 300n

Total population for Austin in n years = 24000+160n

In n years population of both the cities becomes same

therefore

Total population for Waco in n years =Total population for Austin in n years

14000+300n = 24000+160n

=> 300n - 160n = 24000-14000

=> 140n = 10000

=> n = 10,000/140 = 71. 428 Years

Thus, in 71.43 years population of both cities be the same.

If we have to integral value of years then answer will

72 years because 71.43 greater than 71 years and hence in 72th years population of both cities becomes same.
