Answer:

She said: "Literature has to take us beyond. If it cannot take us there, it is not good lterature".

Step-by-step explanation:

Elif Shafak who prides herself as a storyteller, explained in the Politics of Fiction, the role that literature has to play in our lives. According to her, literature has to take us to realms that would have been otherwise impossible for us to reach. She cited an example of Pakistani's and Israelis who are not in talking talking terms but who can still read books written by authors on either side. In this instance, literature has served the purpose of connecting two worlds that were apart in normal physical terms. She still cautioned on being aware of the possibility of becoming fetish with fictional stories.

I agree with her. The reason is that if literature has this important attribute, then we would have an open, active and imaginative mind. We would also be able to understand the people around us even if we do not have similar cultures. Unity would also be possible for we can then see some similarities between us and others.
