Answer:

x=-2\pm2\sqrt13

Explanation:

The area of the triangle is;

A=(1)/(2) * b* h

b=x+4

h=x

Area=A=24

A=(1)/(2)*[(x+4)* x] \\24=(x^(2) +4x)/(2) \\24*2=x^(2) +4x\\48=x^(2) +4x\\x^(2) +4x-48=0\\

This can only be solved by the quadratic formula.

x=\frac{-b\pm\sqrt {b^(2)-4ac }}{2a}

where;

a=1\\b=4\\c=-48

and we get,

x=-2\pm2\sqrt13
