We have to make x from 4x < 8 be alone (otherwise known as isolation). Therefore we have to divide each side in order to remove that pesky 4.

We divide each side by 4 since it is the greatest common factor (GCF). 4 divided by 4 would equal 1x (otherwise known as x). 8 divided by 4 would equal 2. This results in x < 2.
