12 study German
• 25 study Spanish
6 do not study either language.
One student in the class is selected at random.
Find the probability that this student studies both languages.

34-6 is 28 therefore out of 28, 12 speak German and 25 speak Spanish. 12+25 is 37. 37-28 means 9 students speak both languages. Therefore the probability of selecting a student who studies both languages would be 9 in 34. Or 9/34.
