carolyn and emily are searching online for tickets to a concert. two weeks ago, the cost was $20. now the cost is $29. carolyn said the percent increase is 45% and emily said the percent of increase is about 31%. who is correct?

We multiply the orignal price with 0.45 to see how much it increased.


20(0.45) = 9

We then add it to the original price


20+9 =29

Emily:

31% = 0.31

We multiply the orignal price with 0.31 to see how much it increased.


20(0.31) = 6.2

We then add it to the original price


20+6.2=26.2

That means that Carolyn is correct.
