When putting it into a graphing calculator, you have to find the middle “line”, in this example the axis of symmetry is -8.

Answer: D (bottom option)

Axis of Symmetry: x = -8

Vertex: (-8, -40)

Y-Intercept: 24

Explanation:

Start by putting the equation into vertex form, which you can do by completing the square. This means the equation will in the form
y=a(x-h)^2+k.

Once you've done that, you'll get
y=(x+8)^2-40. This means that h = -8 and k = -40, so the vertex is (-8, -40) because vertex form is (h, k).

The axis of symmetry is x = -8, because the axis of symmetry is x = h.
