so we are going to divide by 2

1.5x + 12 = 2.5x -4

now we want to put the variables on one side and the numbers on the other side of the equal sign

and to

1.5x +12 = 2.5x -4

now we want to move the variable that is on the right to the left side

1.5x = 2.5x - 16

-2.5x -2.5x

-x = -16

change the signs and the answer is
