The U.S has a limited government in the separation of power between the Judicial, The Legislative, and Executive Branch each one checks and balances the others. For Example say the president wants to pass a bill, it will have to go through the Legislative branch to get passed, and Judicial branch can make it so it's not passed if it violates people's rights.
