During a recent beetle infestation, two-thirds of the ash trees in the area were destroyed. If 130 trees were destroyed, how many ash trees were originally in the area?

Answer:

195 Trees

Explanation:

2/3 is just 2 of 3 parts

2 parts of the trees is 130,

so divide 130 by 2, and that's 65.

Since you know 65 + 65 is the same as 2 out of 3

Then just add 65 one more time to equal 195.

Since, 65*3 is the same as saying 1 * 3 parts

130 is equal to 2/3, so 195 is equal to 3/3.

195.

set this up as a proportion with 2/3 = 130/x
130 x 3 = 390
390 / 2 = 195
