Just subtract the sum of 1/4 and 1/3 on 1

.

1 - [(1/3) + (1/4)]

Get the least common denominator. LCD = 12

= 12/12 - [(4/12) + (3/12)]

= 12/12 - (7/12)

= 5/12

.

Therefore, 5/12 of the tank is empty.
