In 2004, scientists saw tribesmen in the Philippines carrying a giant lizard. This lizard was 6.5 feet (2 meters) long.

It also had golden spots. The tribesmen found it in the mountain forests of Luzon, the country's largest island.
Scientists did not recognize this particular kind of animal. They decided to catch another one. When they did, they
learned they were right: They had not seen this type of lizard before. More importantly, scientists had not studied
them either.
