how many solutions does the following equation have
8u+3(1/3u-6)=9u+2u+12

Without even working out anything we can easily tell the answer is
1 because the degree of the equation is one.

If you haven't learned this yet let me know and I will post the manual work.

Answer:

1 solution

Explanation:

When put in general form, the coefficient of u is non-zero, so there is 1 solution.

0 = 9u +2u +12 -(8u +3(1/3u -6))

0 = 11u +12 -8u -3(1/3u -6)

0 = 3u +12 -u +18

0 = 2u +30 . . . general form equation

0 = u +15

-15 = u . . . . . one solution
