x = -5
Explanation:
Simplify: 2x + 8 - 5 = -7
Subtract 8 from each side, so it now looks like this: 2x - 5 = -15
Add 5 to each side, so it now looks like this: 2x = -10
Divide each side by 2, to cancel out the 2 next to x. It should now look like this: x = -5
