Full area will have the sides:

Area of the garden is

• 40*x

So the difference is:

• 588 = (x + 6)*46 - 40*x
• 588 = 46x + 6*46 - 40x
• 588 = 6x + 276
• 6x = 588 - 276
• 6x = 312
• x = 312/6
• x = 52 m

The length of the garden is 52 m
