Here in this question, we want to use the section formula to determine the y- coordinates of the line that divides the segment in the ratio 1:3 or 1/3

The formula to use to get the coordinates is;

( (mx2 + nx1) /m + n , (my2 + ny1)/( m + n))

So in this case;

m = 1 n = 3

x1 = 4 , x2 = 5

y1 = -2 , y2 = -2

So substituting these values ( we will only make for the y part since we only need to get the y coordinate)

Hence;

[1(-2) + 3(-2)]/(1+3) = (-2-6)/4 = -8/4 = -2
