Some commentators have suggested heavily taxing / regulating bullets in order to limit gun violence. Do you think that would be constitutional? Explain.

The second amendment to the constitution which was ratified in the year 1791 endorses the rights of individuals to 'keep and bear arms'. This means that it is recognized by law for citizens of the United States to acquire and own arms through legal means. Even though this right has led to the prevalence of gun violence, it would be unconstitutional to deny this right from citizens.

Since citizens cannot be denied this basic right, it can however be regulated by imposing heavy taxes on the owners of these arms to cover up for the negative consequences incurred by the society as a result of this. This would not be a violation of the constitution because the individual's right to bear arms is not nullified.
