How does following conventions help with clarity?

Code Clarity. Naming conventions affect the readability of your code and the ease with which you can find your way around when you're reviewing that code. Naming conventions aren't meant to help the compiler. A compiler has no trouble distinguishing names, no matter how long, short, or obscure they are.
