A researcher has recruited 20 volunteers to participate in a study. The researcher wishes to measure the effect of alcohol on an individual's reaction time. The 20 volunteers are randomly divided into two groups. Group 1 will serve as a control group in which participants drink four 1-ounce cups of a liquied that looks, smells, and tastes like alcohol in 15-minute increments. Group 2 will serve as an experimental group in which participants drink four 1-ounce cups of 80-proof alcohol in 15-minute increments. After drinking the last 1-ounce cup, the participants sit for 20 minutes. After the rest period, the reaction time to a stimulus is measured. This is an example of

Answer: Experimental Research

Step-by-step explanation: Experimental Research is the "classical" method of conducting an experiment to a scientific approach. It is the most rigorous of all research designs. In it, an independent variable is used to determine its influence on a dependable variable. Experimental research's unique quality is that it can link cause and effect through between variables.

This method works better at independent variables which can be manipulated or controled and can be conducted in laboratories or field settings.

There are 3 types of experimental research:

  • Pre-experimental Research Design: it is the simplest and pratical form. In it, a group or groups are observed by the application of the independent variable and determine the change;
  • Quasi-Experimental Research Design: the participants are not randonly selected, there is a control group and independent variable is manipulated;
  • True Experimental Research Design: it is the most accurate of the types. It uses control group, randomized group of participants, statistical analysis to reject or accept a hypothesis. It is the epitome of the experimental research;

Experimental Research is important because it gives the opportunity to test

the hypothesis and developing a solid conclusion.
