In his paintings that depict the flowers of Puerto Rico, Carlos Hernandez Chavez uses many shades of red, yellow and orange. These colors draw a lot of attention and refer to themes such as wealth, ostentation and abundance. With that, we can see that when painting these colors, Chaves exposes the theme of natural wealth and valorization of Puerto Rico's visual resources, which is often devalued by the great powers.

Chavés is a great activist and has used his work to complain about oppression of minorities, especially blacks. In his works, he uses themes such as neglect and neglect, to highlight the irresponsibility of governments and great artists towards minorities. In these works we can see the predominance of shades of blue and other colors of cold spectrum.
