As shown in the diagram, for every and any given row or column, the sum of the numbers that make up such is 15. Also, the sum of numbers in the diagonals adds up to 15. For example:

Row 1 contains numbers 8, 1 and 6. The sum of these numbers is 8 + 1 + 6 = 15

Row 2 contains numbers 3, 5 and 7. The sum of these numbers is 3 + 5 + 7 = 15

Column 3 contains numbers 6, 7 and 2. The sum of these numbers is 6 + 7 + 2 = 15

Diagonal 1 contains numbers 8, 5 and 2. The sum of these numbers is 8 + 5 + 2 = 15

In essence, the numbers 1 through 9 have been logically placed in the squares such that a magic square (a square that has the sum of elements in each of its rows and columns and diagonals being equal) has been formed.
