Use slopes and y-intercepts to determine if the lines -5x – 4y = -3 and -5x – 5y = -3 are parallel

Only need to know if they are parallel or not! Thank you!

Answer:

Not parallel.

Explanation:

If the slopes are the same they are parallel.

So we convert each one to slope-intercept form:

-5x - 4y = -3

-4y = 5x - 3 Divide both sides by -4:

y = -5/4 x + 3/4.

Slope = -5/4.

-5x – 5y = -3

-5y = 5x - 3 Divide both sides by -5:

y = -1 x + 3/5.

Slope = -1.

The slope are different - so NOT parallel.
