Born on May 19, 1934, in Kasauli, India, he was the son of Edith Clarke and Aubrey Bond. His father served in the Royal Air Force and frequently moved from places to places along with his son.At the of age of 17 in London, he began to write his first novel, The Room on the Roof. It was not published until he was twenty-one. He was awarded John Llewellyn Rhys Memorial prize for his first novel.he returned to India and worked as a journalist in Delhi and Dehradun for a few years. Later, He relocated to a town in the Himalayan foothills, Mussoorie, where he pursued freelance writing since 1963. Some of his books have also been turned into movies.

Ruskin Bond was born in Kasauli, Himachal Pradesh , on 19th May, 1934.But he grew up in shimla,Jamnagar,Dehradun and Mussoorie.

His parents were Aurbey Alexander Bond and Edith Dorothy Clerke.By the age of ten,he had experienced living with Princes and Princesses in Gujarat.He was studied in a boarding school in Dehradun.Even though ,he was an average student in terms of academics,After completing his schooling ,he went to England for further education. He completed and published his first novel from there.He spent four years in England.

He is the significant character in English literature.Ruskin Bond has written over 500 short stories and articles that have appeared in a number of magazines. His novel, The Flight of Pigeons was adapted into a movie, Junoon.

His first novel was “The Room On The Roof”,written when he was seventeen.Ruskin Bond is considered as one of the greatest Indian authors of the English language. . Best known as a children’s story writer.His writing career brought him fame, honours and a number of awards, including the Sahitya Academy Award (1992), Padma Shri (1991), Padma Bhushan (2014)
