the length is 3

since the width is 5 and the perimeter is 16 you need to multiply 5 by 2 to get 10. subtract 10 by the perimeter 16 to get 6 and then divide 6 by 2 to get the length of one side (3).

5 x 2 = 10

16 - 10 = 6

6/2 = 3

Answer:

3

Explanation:

if the perimeter is 16 feet and the width is 5 feet, we can make and equation.

we can use 2x+2y=16, because two of the four sides are equal, and the other two sides are also equal, and adding them results in 16.

we know the width is 5 feet, so we can plug that in for x.

2*5+2y=16

10+2y=16

now we just solve for the unknown, so we just subtract 10 on both sides...

2y=6

y=3
