Answer:

y = 0.45

x = 5.075

Step by step explanation:

Take one equation and isolate one variable. in this case, i will choose to isolate x from the first equation.

2x + 7y = -7

first subtract 7y from both sides to get 2x alone on one side

you should get: 2x = -7 -7y

then divide 2 from both sides to get only x on one side.

you should get: x = -3.5 -3.5y

now you have a value for x. substitute this value into the second equation.

Second equation: -4x -3y = 19

with substitution: -4( -3.5 -3.5y) -3y = 19

distribute the -4 in the -4( -3.5 -3.5y) part

you should get 14 + 14y - 3y = 19

add like terms:

14 + 11y = 19

subtract 14 from both sides:

11y = 5

divide 11 from both sides:

y = 0.45

now you have a value of y that you can substitute in the first equation:

x= -3.5 -3.5y

substituted:

x= -3.5 -3.5(0.45)

solved:

x= 5.075

hope this helps :)
